The Waverly Republican has a nut for the geologist to crack. It says that J. C. Janes, on the farm of Wm. Janes, in Lafayette Township, while digging a well, found, at a depth of eighteen feet, a strata of petrified rock, and a china toy, the figure of a horse. Several wells have been drilled on the place this past summer, and not a sign of rock discovered except in this instance. The finding of the toy at that depth in the earth is considerable of a curiosity.
