....n 1876, Frederick and Fredrica Buenzow sold their farm in Cook County, Illinois and moved their family via covered wagon to Bremer County, IA. The family consisted of sons Frederick, Edward, William, Frank and Herman; daughters Bertha (Tiedt) and Louisa (Lehmkuhl). The Mississippi River crossing was made over the ice. The family settled on a farm a half mile west and 1 3/4 miles south of the village of Buck Creek, across the road from the Poehler family. In 1878 Frederick senior was killed by a falling tree according to Paul Buenzow, son of Edward.

On 9 Dec, 1886, William married Carolina Poehler. The couple raised three sons; Ernest, John and Frederick and daughters Martha (Tiede), Hulda (Katzung) and Anna (Bailey) and Ida (Bierie). Ernest and Hulda were twins. Two boys died of diptheria in 1903; 2 years old and 2 months old, respectively. The family was raised about 2/3rds of a mile west of Oran on acreage homesteaded for $15 an acre. ..........
