Dubuque Democratic Herald – Dec. 2, 1864
R. R. MATTERS – There undoubtedly was a gay time in Waverly last night on the entrance of the iron horse into that town. Superintendent Young, Master Mechanic T. Place and several others went out to be present on the occasion. Everything was free, without money or price, and feasting and festivity ruled the hour.
