Hagemann, Carl

Carl Hagemann, a successful farmer of Maxfield township, owning and operating one hundred and forty acres of land on section 32, was born in this part of Bremer county, Jan 11, 1872. He is a son of Fred and Dora (Knief) Hagemann, natives of Germany, of whom further mention is made elsewhere in this work.

Carl Hagemann grew to manhood in Maxfied township, acquiring his education in the district and German schools. Since laying aside his books he has been engaged in agricutural pursuits, his farming and stock-raising interests becoming every year more extensive and important. He owns one hundred and forty acres of improved land on section 32, this township, and is classed with the progressive and successful agriculturists of the community.

On the 24th of June, 1896, Mr. Hagemann was united in marriage to Miss Christine Strottman, who was born in Maxfield township, April 29, 1873. She is a duaghter of Henry and Christina Strottman, natives of Germany, who were among the early settlers in Maxfield township, where both passed away. To their union were born nine children: Fred, of Fremont township; William, of Waverly, Iowa; Mrs. William Buhr, of Readlyn; Mrs. Henry Buhr, of the same city; Henry, deceased; August, of Maxfield township; John of the same township; Mrs. Fred Kroneke, deceased; and Mrs. Hagemann, wife of the subject of this review.

Mr. and Mrs. Hagemann have become the parents of the following children; Della, who was born April 24, 1897; Minnie, born June28, 1898; Edmund, January 3, 1901; Norma, January 7, 1904; Elda, July 6, 1907; and Carl, Jr. born July 8, 1909; and Dorothea, born June 4, 1912.

Mr. Hagemann is a member of the Lutheran church of Denver. He gives his political allegiance to the democratic party and was a member of the school board of Maxfield township from 1903 to 1905. During a period of residence in this part of Bremer county dating from his birth to the present time he has become widely and favorably known, his upright and honorable life having gained him the esteem and confidence of all who are associated with him.
