Axel Theodore Anderson was born in Norrkoping, Sweden on Oct 8, 1871, the son of Fredrik Otto Anderson (1846-1891) and his wife Kristina Anderson (1840-1897). The parents were natives of Sweden and immigrated with their children to this country in 1881, settling in Webster County, Iowa near Dayton. The parents both died before the turn of the century and are buried in the Dayton Cemetery.
Axel Anderson was thus raised partly in Sweden and partly in the country, being about 10 years old when he arrived here. On March 6, 1895, he was married to Miss Anna Marie Eklund. She was born in Sweden on Dec 16, 1875, the daughter of Swan Eklund (1844-1927) and his wife Christine Fredricka (Larson) Eklund (1846-1946). The parents were likewise natives of Sweden and immigrated with their children to this country in 1882, settling in Section 33 of Dayton Township, Webster County, Iowa, near Dayton. They retired in 1907 and moved into Dayton. Both are buried in the Dayton Cemetery, the mother lacking just five months of reaching her 100th birthday.
To Mr and MRs Anderson were born nine children: Edward (1896-1969), Floyd (1897-1980), Oliver, Mrs Clarence (Evalyn) Swanson (1899-1979), Mrs Elmer (Viola) Renberg, Mrs Arvid (Fern) Carlson, Mrs Oscar (Elsie) Gustafson, Mrs Harry (Frances) Carlson, and Mrs Dorrance (Nina) Peterson. Mr and Mrs Anderson were at first members of the Dayton Lutheran Church, he having been confirmed there in 1887 and she in 1890. In 1912 they transferred their membership to the Boxholm Lutheran Church.
The first few years of their married life were spent on a farm north of Dayton, but about 1912 they moved to Grant Township, settling on a farm in Section 6. Mr Anderson purchased this 80 acres farm (W1/2 of NE1/4) on Feb 27, 1914, and was engaged in the farming of it for the rest of his active life. IN 1942 they retired and moved into Boxholm where Mr Anderson died on March 29, 1946, aged 74 years. Mrs Anderson continued to reside in Boxholm until her own death which occurred on Jan 12, 1966, at the age of 90 years. Both are buried in Prairie Lawn Cemetery east of Boxholm. Descendants still residing within Grant Township are one daughter, Mrs Elmer (Viola) Renberg and one grandson, LaVern Renberg.
