Gladys J. Elliott of Waverly, Iowa

April 30, 1927 - December 9, 2018

Gladys J. Elliott, 91, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of New Hartford, Iowa, died Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.

She was born April 30, 1927 in New Hartford, the daughter of Lawrence and Esther (Ballhagen) Rittgers. Gladys married Calvin K. “Bud” Elliott on July 15, 1948 in Aplington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2009.

Gladys was a graduate of New Hartford High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She was a seamstress and housekeeper for many years. Gladys was saved on March 26, 1944 when she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior.

She is survived by her two daughters, Andrea Carlock of Waterloo, Iowa and Brenda (Danny) Steenhard of New Hampton, Iowa; her son, Barton M. (Barbara) Elliott, of Sugar Mountain, North Carolina; six grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph (Arlene) Rittgers of Nevis, Minnesota and Donald (Frances) Rittgers of Shell Rock, Iowa, and three sisters: Charlotte, Elizabeth and Ardith Rittgers, all of New Hartford.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two brothers, Eugene and Merle Rittgers, and her son-in-law, James Carlock.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Cedar Heights Baptist Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford.
