Louise Gardner

October 27, 1932 - June 16, 2018

Louise Gardner 85, of Waterloo, died Saturday, June 16, at her home. She was born October 27, 1932, in Rosedale, Mississippi, the daughter of Marshal King and Lucy Johnson. She married Henry Gardner August 12, 1992. Her died February 17, 2018.

Louise owned and operated a grocery store, café, along with several rental properties in Mississippi for many years before moving to Waterloo where she was a foster/child care provider until her retirement in 1992.

Survived by: three daughters, Celita (Darryl) Payne, Shelia (Robert “Pete”) Butler, and Marilyn Woods, all of Waterloo; three sisters, Eloise Vance, Lena Johnson, and Juanita Hicks, all of Chicago, Ill.; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Preceded in death by: three daughters: Joyce, Yvonne and Celess; two sons, Nelson and Lacy; two grandchildren; her parents; three brothers: Lloyd Johnson, Tommie Johnson, and Jasper Johnson; and four sisters: Kate Solomon, Viola Wash, Gertrude Shaw, and Ella Gregory.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 25, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation will be Sunday June 24, from 4-7:00 p.m. at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for one hour before the service at the church.
