Biography--

Darlene Phyllis Bahls, 92, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Friendship Village Retirement Center on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.

She was born March 7, 1926 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Fern Youngdale Sundell.

Darlene graduated from Osceola High School in 1944 and attended Drake University from 1946‑1948.

She married Howard R. Bahls on August 23, 1950 in Rockwell City, Iowa; he died April 29, 2017. She had been a teacher, homemaker, bookkeeper and a sales clerk at JC Penney. Darlene was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Delta Zeta Sorority and the 4‑H Club.

Darlene loved her husband and family and took joy in her grandchildren. She enjoyed nature, reading and crafting.

She is survived by three sons: Dr. Fred (Dr. Donna) Bahls of Clive, IA, Jim Bahls of Pleasanton, CA, and Ken (Megan) Bahls of Mason City, IA; a daughter, Beverly (Wayne) Munsterman of Pella, IA; 10 grandchildren: Chris (Shenna), Lia, Jake, Christina, Rachel, Rebecca, Julia, Isaiah, Meira, and Elijah; a great‑grandson, Kaiden; and a brother, Don (Doris) Sundell of Grinnell, IA.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
