Irene Grimm

Irene Ellen Grimm was born on August 22, 1919, in Dunn County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Lubbs) Austreng.

On January 13, 1940, she was united in marriage to Merle “Doc” Hamer in Ionia, Iowa. Doc died in 1973. On January 5, 1985, Irene married Roy Hoskins in Plainville, Kansas. Roy died in 1992. On July 15, 2000, Irene married Melvin Grimm in Washburn, Iowa. Melvin died in 2016. Irene worked as an embroidery specialist for many years at Powers Manufacturing.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo and most recently attended Calvary Baptist Church in Dysart.

She enjoyed needleworking, quilting, traveling, camping, and gardening.

Irene died at the age of 98, on May 16, 2018, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; two sisters; a brother; a son, Larry; and a son-in-law, Bud.

Irene is survived by two sons, Ken (Ann) Hamer of Kingsland, Georgia and Lee (Diana) Hamer of Dysart; a daughter, Arlene Loerch of Marion, Iowa; a sister, Ruth Bock of Sterling, Illinois; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Dysart. The visitation will be on Friday, May 18, 2018, from 5 to 7 PM at Overton Funeral Home in Dysart. Please direct memorials to Hospice Compasses.
