Biography--

Dr. Eddie E. Sage, 91, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Arizona, died at NewAldaya Lifescapes on Monday, November 13, 2017.

He was born on May 21, 1926 in Winterset, Iowa; the son of Donald and Elaine Gordon Sage.

He married Beverly Middlekauf and they later divorced; he married Betty Lou Gardner and they later divorced; he married Rosa J. Dawson, she preceded him in death in 1995; he married Juanita (Dale) Hansen on June 14, 1997 at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.

Eddie graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1943; he then graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1950 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Master’s degree in Education in 1953; he received his Doctorate in Administration Supervision Education from Wayne State University in 1962.

He taught in a one room country schoolhouse in Bennington Township; Eddie then taught at Buffalo State Teachers College for three years; and later taught at Northern Arizona University for 30 years from 1966 1996. He received the Manuelito NCA leadership award, for his work accrediting schools on the Navajo Reservation. Eddie was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Asiatic Theatre and Japanese Occupation from 1946 1949; He was able to go on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Sage of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Scarlett (Ed) Bayard of Carrollton, TX, Marianne Sage of Florence, AZ, April A. Sage of Collinsville, IL, and Debra R. Scoby of Florence, AZ; a stepson, Steven Payne of Kalama, WA; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; three brothers, Tom (Pearl) Sage of Pine Grove, CA, Robert Sage, Oelwein, IA, and Ernie (Virginia) Sage of Dunkerton, IA; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Sage of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Erpelding; a brother, Donald "Bill" Sage; and two sisters, Rosemary Fliss and Ethyl Adsit.

Memorial Service: May 26, 2018 at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 2003 E. Mount Vernon Road, Waterloo, Iowa
