Biography--

Sherry L. Schumacher, age 44, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital of metastatic breast cancer.

She was born May 1, 1973 in Cedar Falls, the daughter of George “Sam” and Dawn (Wray) DeBord.

She graduated from East High School in 1991. She went on to obtain an elementary education degree from Central College in Pella.

Sherry was united in marriage with Mark Schumacher on September 17, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Sherry worked at NRG Media for over 20 years, but most recently worked as a traffic controller at KWWL. She was an active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Readlyn, where she had served as council secretary. She was also a strong breast cancer awareness advocate.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Schumacher of Waterloo; a daughter, Rachel Schumacher at home; parents, George & Dawn DeBord of Evansdale; brother, Jeremy (Jennifer) DeBord of Minneapolis, MN; niece, Stella DeBord; Maternal grandmother, Marlys Wray of Cedar Falls; and mother-in-law, Janice Schumacher of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Guy Wray; paternal grandparents, Mary & Homer Pruitt and Ernest DeBord; and father-in-law, Marvin J. Schumacher.
