Dorothy Kay, the daughter of Willie and Dorothy (Scholl) Niedert, was born on July 31, 1934, in Waterloo. She was united in marriage to her childhood sweetheart, David Lee Brody on May 17, 1951, also in Waterloo. Most of her adult life was spent living between Faribault, MN and northeast Iowa.

Dorothy was a loving mother of five children and an exciting and devout wife. She was employed at the Faribault Regional Center where she was always a strong voice for those who couldn’t speak on their own behalf. She completed her working career at the Faribault State Prison in 1996.

Dorothy enjoyed bowling, fishing, singing, dancing, and playing BINGO, especially with her daughters. She was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan – Brett Favre, in particular. She also raised and trained field trial Beagles. She experienced great success winning the Chicago Field Trial and owning the Iowa State champion female. Most of all, she loved the gathering of the entire family, including the great-grandkids, for the holidays where she always prepared the most wonderful meals.

Dorothy showed incredible grace even during her most trying times with her faith in God, appreciation of her caregivers, and love of her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dorothy K. Brody, age 83 of Faribault, MN, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018, at her home surrounded by loved ones following an extended illness.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Charles Whitson; a grandson, Trevor Lee Brody; 14 brothers and sisters: Bill Niedert, Jack Niedert, Les Niedert, Bob Niedert, Jim Niedert, Jerry Niedert, Tommy Niedert, Kenyon Niedert, Larry Niedert, Edna (Peach) Moritz, Madlynne Hutchins, Marjorie Ringler, Danna Taylor, and Patte Niedert.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, David L. Brody of Faribault, MN; her five children: Michelle Symonds of Independence; Kenyon (Robbyn) Brody of Spring Valley, MN, Patte (Jeff St. Martin) Brody of Faribault, Michael Brody of Spring Valley, MN, and Tommy (Joan) Brody of Faribault; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Kay (Dean) Schultz of Grundy Center.
