Oelwein, Iowa – Cletus John Pfiffner, 89 years old of Oelwein, died Thursday, February 15, 2018, at his home.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at St. Francis Catholic Church – Barclay, rural Dunkerton, IA. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Fortsch-Duffy American Legion Post #552 of Fairbank, IA. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 19th at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Parish Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Cletus was born March 9, 1928, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Raymond Bernard Pfiffner and Johanna Anna (Geib) Pfiffner. He graduated from Dunkerton High School with the class of 1946 and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

On May 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joanne Elaine Maiers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2001. The couple raised their family in Dewar, IA. Cletus was an electrician and owned and operated Pfiffner Electric with his brother Vince.

After his retirement in 1998, Cletus continued to work as an electrician for K & W Electric and for Stickfort Construction.

On March 9, 2002, he and Evelyn Barnes Reiter were united in marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church – Barclay. They made their home in Oelwein, IA, and had many good years together.

Cletus was a member of Fortsch – Duffy American Legion Post #552 of Fairbank, IA; Sullivan Brothers VFW Post #1623, Waterloo, IA; and AMVETS Post #49, Cedar Falls, IA. Cletus was also involved with the Waterloo Eagles and the National Electrician Contractor Association. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, IA, and a lifelong member of St. Francis Catholic Church – Barclay, rural Dunkerton, IA. Cletus enjoyed dancing, old time country music, and model trains. His faith was important to him, as he was the spiritual bedrock of the family.

Cletus is survived by his wife, Evelyn Reiter Pfiffner of Oelwein, IA; 3 sons, Tom (Carolyn) Pfiffner of Waterloo, IA, Matt (Nicki) Ivey of North Hampton, PA, Ken (Marcea Seible) Pfiffner of Waterloo, IA; 5 daughters, Teresa Pfiffner of Waterloo, IA, Lisa (Matt) Pfiffner Eaton of Oregon, IL, Linda Wilson of Cedar Falls, IA, Maria Pfiffner of Waterloo, IA, Kathy Pfiffner of Washington D.C.; 1 step-son, Rob (Dawn) Reiter of Oelwein, IA; 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kristina, Emily, James, David, Donovan, and Vivian; 4 step-grandchildren, Tracie, Pat, Chris, Jon; 1 brother, Joe (Vera) Pfiffner of Waterloo, IA; and a special family relative, Mary (Gene) Barnes of Vinton, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joanne Pfiffner; 3 brothers, Francis Pfiffner, Herb Pfiffner, Vince Pfiffner; 1 sister, Roberta Kriegel; and 1 son-in-law, Ross Wilson.

Memorials will be directed to the church and Cedar Valley Hospice.

White Funeral Home, Jesup, is in charge of arrangements.
