Obituary for Rose Marie "Rosie" Witt

Rose Marie “Rosie” Witt, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, January 15, 2018 at Thalmon Square, Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls.

She was born June 21, 1926 in Gilbertville, daughter of Andrew and Stella Bovy Fischels. She married Russell R. Witt April 10, 1948 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. He died April 29, 2004.

Rosie and her husband farmed in the Reinbeck area, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Rick (Janet) Witt of Cedar Falls; five daughters, Linda (John) Rich of Poway, Calif., Kathy (Dennis) Willer of Waterloo, Jane (Jim) Siemens of Marshalltown, Lori (Dan) Berregaard of Cedar Falls and Patti (Tom) Striewig of Long Beach,Calif.; 15 grandchildren, Andrew Rich, Michael Rich, Michelle Stalzer, Matt Willer, Angie Rooney, Brian Witt, Jason Siemens, Eric Siemens, Kristi Richards, Danielle Peters, Emily Berregaard, Hannah Berregaard, Eli Berregaard, Tommy Striewig and Kelly Striewig; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray (Betty) Fischels of Ky. and Larry (Karen) Fischels of Waterloo and five sisters, Anna Mae (Jack) Riggs of Ohio, Joan Kirby and Jean Whalen both of Waterloo, Adorine (Dick) Voellinger of Clear Lake and Peggy Parks of San Diego, Calif.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Jimmy Fischels and a sister, Bernice Van Nice.

Services will be 10:30 am Monday, January 22 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with burial in Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck. Public visitation will be from 4-8 pm Sunday, January 21 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 pm rosary and a 7 pm vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Rosie enjoyed sewing and cooking, and loved dancing and shopping, especially for shoes. Two things very important to Rosie were her faith and her love for all her family.
