Obituary for Edna Mae Fagerlind

Edna Mae Fagerlind, 81, of La Porte City, died Saturday January 13, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born February 26, 1936 in Waterloo, daughter of Melvin L. and Jennie M. Keeler Fagerlind.

Edna Mae graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1954. She was employed as an operator with Northwestern Bell then in sales with Control-o-Fax, Waterloo and later with Rite Grocery Store in Las Vegas.

Survivors include her lifetime companion, David L. Mentel of La Porte City; daughter, Lisa A. Fagerlind of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Thomas Newell, Tim (Jen) Newell, Jennie (Jerry) Demery, Ashley (Brittney) Auten, Shane Spooner and Adam Spooner and six great-grandchildren, Chloe, Jer’mare, Javion, Jaydyn, Liliah and Liberty; four step-sons, Bryan (Kathy) Mentel and Ron (Tammy) Mentel all of Waterloo, David J. (Shellie) Mentel of La Porte City and Mike (Mary) Mentel of Fla.; three step-daughters, Sarah Haniuk, Shelley (Ryk) Cox and Mary Nobis all of Waterloo; 20 step-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale L. (Mary) Fagerlind of Rochester, Minn. and a sister, Virginia “Ginny” (Jerry) Holbach of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Carl L. Fagerlind and Howard Fagerlind and two sisters, Thelma Egner and Ruth Klaus and two step-daughters, Brenda Mentel and Deborah Dean.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 18 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church under the auspices of St. Edward Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7 pm Rosary. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mae loved her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, baking and gardening. The family would like to thank Covenant Medical Center, La Porte City First responders and EMT.
