Jesup, Iowa – Valetta K. “Val” Christensen, 75 years old, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Jesup, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017, of natural causes at Pinnacle Specialty Care Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Valetta Kaye Chaney was born March 26, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Harold Franklin Chaney and Mae Louise (Hanson) Chaney. She was united in marriage to Thomas Edward Christensen in Waterloo, IA. They later divorced.

Val was a cook at Tri-County Head Start for 13 years before starting a daycare out of her home. She loved being with people, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, coloring, and putting puzzles together. She also enjoyed roller skating, watching movies, and gossiping about the latest Hollywood news.

Valetta is survived by one daughter, Robin Clayton of Independence, Iowa; one son, Ricky (DaleAnn) Christensen of Waterloo, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Karleda (Robert) Hayungs of Clear Lake, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Ronda Christensen.

A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. - Monday, December 11, 2017, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, with Pastor Mike Nemmers officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until service time, Monday, at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
