Biography--

Dwane Edward Hilmer, age 91, of Clarksville and formerly of Dent, Minnesota, Brandon and Hudson, Iowa, died Sunday, December 4, 2017 at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born August 24, 1926 in Dysart, Iowa the son of Edward Eldo and Mary Ellen (Walker) Hilmer.

Dwane was united in marriage with Maxine Isabella Poulter on July 3, 1945 at the United Brethren Church in Hudson. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2006.

Dwane was a US Army Veteran serving as a military policeman in Anchorage, Alaska during World War II.

Dwane and Maxine farmed in the Brandon area for 17 years. They later owned and operated Hilmer’s Haven Resort in Detroit Lakes, MN for 25 years and Hilmer Haven Campgrounds for 5 years in Detroit Lakes until retiring in 1993.

Survivors include four sons, Dean (Vicky) Hilmer of Waverly, Gary (Debbie) Hilmer of Rochester, MN, Rick (Arlene) Hilmer of Wickenburg, AZ, and David (Jan) Hilmer of St. Peters, MO; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Debbie (Denny) Stancel of Atkins, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and a sister, Betty Jean Slager.
