Ruth LaVonne Hoffman, 91, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Monday, November 27 at Friendship Village.

She was born December 12, 1925 in Grundy Center daughter of William and Mary Connell Meany. She married Paul C. Hoffman on May 23, 1953 in Waterloo. He died October 26, 1996.

Before Ruth was married she worked for Gamble Robinson where she developed lifelong friends. She and Paul dairy farmed for 27 years, after selling the cows she went on to sell at the farmers’ markets in Waterloo and Cedar Falls.

She is survived by a son, Greg (Denise) Hoffman of Waterloo; four daughters, Mary (RobRoy) Hoffman of Decorah, Marla (Bruce) Mestad of Arlington, Texas; Jane (Glenn) Kozel of Cincinnati, Ohio and Joan (Duane) Prange of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Justin and Eli Hoffman, Sarah, Greg, and Emily Kozel, Megan (Tyler) Leech; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Noah Leech; a sister Loretta Richardson of Burnsville, Minn.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Paul Meany and sister-in-law Dorothy Meany.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November, 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 29 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, Iowa chapter.

Ruth was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed getting phone calls and visits from her children and grandchildren.
