Obituary for Harriet Picht

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Harriet B. Picht, 85, of Cedar Falls died Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

She was born October 24, 1932 in Cedar Falls, daughter of Harry and Kathryn “Kitty” (Hogan) Smith. She married Merle D. Picht on December 26, 1952 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2006.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1950 and earned her BA degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught elementary music in the Cedar Falls Community Schools for 30 years.

Survived by: a daughter, Terri (Walter) Brandt of Dysart; a son, Dan Picht of Brooklyn, IA; five grandchildren: Andrew (Emily) Koppenhaver, Eric (Lise) Picht, Kati Brandt, Jessica (Lance) Berndt, and Sara Picht; and two great grandsons, Ross Koppenhaver and Mason Picht.

Preceded in death by: a son, David Picht; and four sisters: Marguerite, Dorothy, Kathryn and Rita.

Memorial Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Windy Hill Singers at Western Home Communities, or the Church.
