Garrett Ray Phillips

Garrett Ray Phillips, 93, of Waterloo, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017, surrounded by his beloved family and friends.

He was born on October 25, 1924, to Odius and Versie Phillips in Everton, Arkansas. Garrett met the love of his life Helen and they married on February 12, 1949. They spent their years loving each other, until Helen passed away in 1996.

They enjoyed traveling to Nashville and meeting the country music stars of their day. Garrett Phillips spent most of his life working at Rath Packing Corporation as a meat cutter. Once he retired though, Garrett could focus on his true passions including; fishing, woodworking, rebuilding and renovating his home to help accommodate Helen’s medical needs.

Garrett Ray Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Norma, and wife.

Left to cherish his memory is his brother Melton Phillips of Kansas; and niece Tanya Dideriksen. He is also survived by his faithful companion Angie. Garrett also leaves behind a large acquired family including; Charlotte Beenken of Waterloo; Justin and Charlotte Wilson of Waterloo; Scott (Kelli) Petersen of Waterloo; Richard (Kari) Petersen of Waterloo; and Luke (Alyssa) Petersen of Waterloo. He also adopted eleven great-grandchildren: Noah, Harmony, Jordyn, Brayden, Caiden, Hailey, Audrianna, Grace, Dylan, Kaylee, and Cameron.

Garrett Ray Phillips was a beloved friend and cherished by all those whose lives he touched.
