Obituary for Russell Lloyd Mager

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Russell L. “Rusty” Mager, 97, of the Western Home Communities-Martin Center, died there Friday, November 3, 2017.

He was born October 7, 1920, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Walter O. and Mabel R. Tippey Mager.

He was united in marriage to Marie Rigdon January 19, 1943 in Clovis, NM. They later divorced. He then married Lucy Witt and later divorced.
Russell served in the United States Army Air Corp in World War II and worked as a metal pattern maker at John Deere from 1947 until his retirement in 1982.

Russell is survived by two sons, Steven of Waterloo and Brent (Karen Carey) of Oelwein; two daughters, Anne Schoonover of Cedar Rapids and Becky (James) Dalluge of Waterloo; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian Mager; one brother, Donald Mager; and one sister, Virginia Johnson.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Western Home Communities Chapel, with interment in the Garden of Memories-Waterloo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services in the chapel. Full military honors will be provided by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.
