Lavern Monahan, 85, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, November 7, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
She was born January 8, 1932 in Little Turkey, daughter of Eugene and Adeline Doubek Jirak. She married Edward Monahan on May 14, 1955 in Waterloo. He died January 1, 1993.
Lavern was employed in the office of Rath Packing Company for several years and was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters: Melissa (Jim) Schreiber of Marion, Mary (Philip Simpson) Monahan of Cedar Falls and Molly (Rick) Spence of Waterloo; a son, Mark (Bobbie Jo) Monahan of Terre Haute, Indiana; nine grandchildren: Kelsey, Kollin, Elizabeth, Ben, Shannon, Claire, Jenny, Killian and Alex; a sister, Loretta O’Brien of Waterloo; and a brother-in-law, Maynard Hansen of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Maureen Monahan; and a sister, Lois Hansen.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the America’s rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Friday.
