Biography--

Helen Pauline Gilbert, age 95, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.

She was born on March 19, 1922 in Waterloo, Iowa; the daughter of Leonard and Cora (Gray) Frye.

She married George Gilbert on December 28, 1940, in Waterloo; George preceded her in death on September 18, 2010.

She worked at Rath Packing Co., and after marriage, she was a homemaker for all her life; she also worked at St. Francis Hospital in the dietary kitchen for many years. She was an active member of Grace Methodist Church until its closing.

While working at Rath Packing Co., she met her future husband, George. She treasured memories of dances at the Riviera in Janesville and of family vacations taken in their ’49 Ford. Helen was a meticulous host, who loved holidays, particularly Christmas and Thanksgiving. She and George enjoyed traveling, especially bus tours to Niagara Falls and New England.

Survivors include: a son, Terry (Doris) Gilbert of Hudson; a daughter, Patricia Bauer of Denver; four grandchildren: Brett Gilbert, Brock Gilbert, Jeff Bauer, and Stacie (Tim) Hartman; four great-grandchildren: Riley Gilbert, Reece Gilbert, Joel Hartman, and Hannah Hartman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters; and one brother.
