La Porte City, Iowa

Robert Curtis Johnson was born June 23, 1959 in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Leonard “Link” and Karen (Norcott) Johnson. He attended Frances Grout Elementary and Immanuel Lutheran Schools in Waterloo. The family moved to LaPorte City where Bob played football both as quarterback and defensive back, graduating with the Class of 1978.

Bob attended Ocean Corp Commercial Diving Academy in Houston, Texas, to become a commercial diver. There, he worked nights as a doorman at a nightclub and in 1997 met a singer named Felicia White. It was love at first sight and this man from LaPorte City, Iowa, was married to this woman who grew up on Iowa Street in LaPorte, Texas, one year later in Houma, LA.

Following his graduation from Ocean Corp, Bob began his diving career in the Gulf of Mexico. He excelled at his work and was quickly promoted because he was so proficient at underwater welding. Because he was in such high demand, he was able to travel the globe for some of the most high-stake jobs. He spent the last five years working in the Persian Gulf as a commercial diving superintendent.

Bob was loved by each and every one he encountered during his 22 years in the dive industry. When time allowed, he also enjoyed hunting but above all, he loved spending time with family, friends and his dogs.

Bob passed away at home in Pace, Florida, surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the age of 58 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Johnson; paternal grandfather, Henry L. Johnson; paternal grandmother, Estella (Keister) Johnson; maternal grandfather, DeYea Norcott; maternal grandmother, Laurene (Knief) Norcott; maternal great-grandmother, Hilda (Moeller) Knief; great niece, Hailey Bucknell; and nephew, Chad Bucknell.

Bob is survived by his wife, Felicia; his mother, Karen Johnson; his children: Brianna Mausser, Brenna Mausser, Corey Johnson and Ryan (Emily) Johnson Willett; his sister, Dawn (Jerry Robinson) Hendershot; his brother, Mark (Lisa) Johnson; his granddaughter, Lydia Willett; his beloved pets, Elvis and Hank; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

Bob will be remembered as a loving, kind, generous and selfless man with a heart of gold!

Memorials may be directed to the family.
