Biography--

Nathan W. "Nate" Kimpston, age 90, of Waterloo and of Sun City, Arizona, died at Pinnacle Specialty Care in Cedar Falls on Friday, October 13, 2017 of complications of surgery.

He was born on April 1, 1927, near Fayette in rural Fayette County, Iowa; the son of Allben and Maude Patterson Kimpston. Nate graduated with the class of 1945 from Fayette High School. He served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1946.

He married Betty Jean Schwendiman on July 24, 1949 in Fayette, Iowa.

Nate worked as a trimmer at Rath Packing Co. for over 30 years until he retired in 1982. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waterloo.

Nate enjoyed reading, and fishing in Minnesota with his friend Bill. He and Betty were fond of spending their winters in Arizona over the past 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Kimpston of Waterloo; three nieces, Janelle Kimpston of Waterloo, Juanita Kimpston of Waterloo, and Karen Lawrence of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Edith Kimpston of Cedar Falls; special friends, Carolyn Mehus and Melissa (Jim) Widdel of Waterloo; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Keith Kimpston; and a sister, Norma Lawrence.
