Dubuque Democratic Herald – Oct. 5, 1864

Fire at Cedar Falls – The large steam mill, above the bridge at Cedar Falls, was burned to the ground last Tuesday night, with its contents, including 10,000 feet of lumber, on both of which there was no insurance. The railroad company had 8,000 worth of bridge iron in the building, which was more or less injured. The mill is a dead loss to the owner. The fire is supposed to have originated in the engine room.
