Mary Jean Johannsen, 86, of Vinton, died peacefully Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home in Vinton. Inurnment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.

Mary was born October 15, 1935 at New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Hite) Booth. She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1953 and AIB in Des Moines in 1955 where she received an Associates Degree in Business. Mary was employed by Rath Packing in Waterloo and Peoples Natural Gas in La Porte City.

On April 25, 1955, Mary was united in marriage to James Johannsen in La Porte City. The couple later divorced.

Mary was a member of Eastern Star as well as the La Porte City Presbyterian Church where she was a very active member. Mary’s “best love” was her family.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her children: Beth Leas of Cedar Rapids, Daniel (Sheryl) Johannsen of Center Point and Mitchell (Elaine) Johannsen of Ankeny; grandchildren: James (Tasha) Leas, Janelle (Thad) Burton, Brian (Stephanie) Johannsen, Kristi Johannsen, Eric Johannsen, Brett (Tami) Johannsen, Bryce (Jillian) Johannsen, Brendan (Kaitlin) Johannsen, Brad (Caitlin) Johannsen and Brittney (Grant) Franzen; twelve great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
