OBITUARY
Theodore “Ted” Ralph Koopman, 72, born in Colton, SD currently residing in Atkins, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Service: 3:30 p.m., Sunday by Rev. Mark Murphy. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 11 to 3 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Due to concerns over Covid, it is suggested that family members and friends wear a mask to any funeral event.
Ted was born October 27, 1949 to Theodore and Marie (Bykerk) Koopman and graduated from Colton High School. He joined the United States Air Force where he was a transportation specialist and went on to serve six years in the Iowa National Guard. Ted worked for the South Dakota Highway Patrol as a State Trooper from 1971 – 1974. He then found his passion in life working in the car industry joining his brother Al at Koopman Motors in Sheldon. Ted then went to work at Bob Kidd Oldsmobile, Cadillac, and Nissan in Fort Dodge where he worked from 1975 – 1981. He then went on to become the Parts Manager at Allen Motor Company in Cedar Rapids from 1981 - 2009 where he was recognized several times for selling the most parts in the region. Prior to his retirement, Ted worked part time at Billion Motors in Iowa City.
Ted is survived by his wife and best friend of 27 years Diane (Stallman) Koopman; two children and four grandchildren, Jenny (Joel) Hansen, Jacob and Josh of Cedar Rapids, and Jeremy (Amelia) Driscoll, Jules and Maverick of West Des Moines; sisters, Joyce (Frank) Bierling of Gainesville, FL, Mary (Rich) Fedders of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Elmer Burgers of Sioux Falls, SD, his mother-in-law Betty Stallman, brothers-in-law Gary (Nancy) Stallman and Richard (Ginger) Stallman; sister-in-law, Julie (Bob) Stallman; and several nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Marie; brother, Al (Georgina) Koopman; sister, Julia Burgers; first wife, Judy (Bauer) Koopman; sister-in-law, Nancy (Jim) Haberle; and special niece, Jacqueline Voelker.
Ted was a generous person always willing to help someone else in need. He and Diane enjoyed traveling the world on several trips that he was awarded during his time working at Allen Motor Company. Ted enjoyed spending time with his family especially spoiling his four grandchildren. Christianity was an important part of his life as he was baptized as an infant and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.
