Betty Ruth Petitt, 89, of Freeport, IL died peacefully Saturday, July 30 at her home. Until recently, Betty was a lifelong resident of Belle Plaine. She moved to Freeport in November 2013 to be near her daughter and son-in-law. Betty was born on the family farm near Koszta on 5 Oct 1926. Her parents were James and Etta M. (Blair Albert) Zigler. Betty graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1946. On 4 Jun 1946 she married Charles W Petitt. Betty was the secretary for the Dolak & Gibney insurance agencies in Belle Plaine for many years. She then worked as a waitress at the Beal's Café until her retirement. After retirement she was a volunteer at the Benton County Food Bank. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America, Rebecca Lodge and a life time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Bowling was a favorite pastime of Betty's. She was a member of the Women's International Bowling Congress for over 30 years. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, especially if cards were involved. She also enjoyed reading, watching NASCAR races, and word puzzles. While she was still able she pieced together quilts for every wedding and grandchild; they are all hand quilted.
Betty is survived by her sister-in-law, Norma Anderson, Columbia, MO, her five children: Clark (Mary) Petitt, Alma; Ellen (Dean) Bartels, Freeport, IL; Diane (Robert Grossman) Kramer, Evanston, IN; Clyde (Julie) Petitt, Belle Plaine and Renee (David) Johnston, Hartwick; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers: Elvin Albert, Ralph (Roy) Albert, Lyle Zigler, Russell Zigler and her sister Nellie Albert Ealy.
