W. C. T. U. Leader Murdered

Vinton, Iowa, Sept. 8-

Mrs. C. B. Cook, aged 41 years, president of the Benton County Women's Christian Temperance Union, known throughout this section of the state for her activities against liquor law violations and an ardent champion of the organization's program, was slain at 11:30 o'clock last night, on the eve of the Benton county W. C. T. U. annual meeting, as she sat in her living room, sewing.

Mrs. Cook died within an hour and a half after the attack, unconscious to the last and unable to make any statement of the crime. Her assailant has not been captured and Benton authorities have admitted that they are unable to make any progress in the solution of one of the most coldblooded and daring murders in the history of the county. Her husband is manager of the gas plant in Sioux City.
