Clara C. Sprock

Clara C. Sprock, 84, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 27, 1997, at a local nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Sieveking and the Rev. Russell C. Senstad officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Adair, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Morningside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sprock was born Oct. 28, 1912, in rural Guthrie County in Iowa, the daughter of John P. and Julie (Vokt) Ernst. She was baptisted [sic baptized] and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair.

She attended rural school in Adair and graduated from Adair High School. She attended Simpson College and Iowa State Teachers College.

She married Edgar Sprock on Aug. 8, 1948, in Adair.

Mrs. Sprock taught rural school in Guthrie County and then elementary school for several years in Audubon, Iowa. She moved to Sioux City in 1979.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Audubon, where she taught Sunday School and was active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where she was active in Bible studies.

Survivors include her husband of Sioux City; a daughter, Karen Sprock of Boone, Iowa; a son and his wife, Martin and Jody of West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jaclyn, Kristin and Katelyn Sprock; and several nices [sic nieces] and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha and Mathilda Ernst and Norene Tibben, and two brothers, Edwin and Lawrence.

Memorials may be given to the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
