JUDGE CHARLES E . HERRICK

The people of Northwestern Colorado were saddened and shocked Monday by the news of the sudden death of Charles E. Herrick, 61, which occurred at Craig only an hour after he suffered a heart attack in his office. He had been judge of the Thirteenth Judicial district, comprising Moffat, Routt and Grand counties, for a quarter of a century and was noted thru-out the state for his judicial ability. He was widely popular and has been repeatedly returned to office by a wide margin in each successive election.

Chares E. Herrick was born in Exira, Iowa, Jan. 25, 1886, and received his law degree from Iowa University. He came to Moffat county in 1910 where he homesteaded and also practiced law. He served two terms as county judge of Moffat county. In 1922 he was elected district judge of this district, which position he held at the time of his death.

In 1917 he was united in marriage to Catherine Finley Woolley at Craig, who survives him. He also is survived by a son, Julius Herreck, who is studying law in Salt Lake City and two step-children, Raymond Woolley, postmaster at Meeker, and Mrs. Frances Kennedy of California.

Judge and Mrs. Herrick were ready to start this week for a visit to the judge's old home in Iowa, where he made annual visits.

Funeral services are being held in the Congregational church at Craig at 2:30 this afternoon. There is widespread grief at the passing of this fine public servant and leading citizen.

Note: Parents of Charles Ernest Herrick were Julius Earl "Boy" Herrick and Jessie Louise Wilcutt. Charles was married to Catherine F. Finley Woolly.
