Death Caused By Smoke Suffocation

--------

Suffocation from smoke coming from a burning straw stack caused the death of Edson Herrick, brother of Judge C. E. Herrick, at Exira, Iowa, about two weeks ago. Edson Herrick's son had been running a disc around the stack to create a furrow to prevent spreading of the fire from the stack. When he was partly overcome by the smoke, his father continued driving the tractor and had gone around the stack one time. The second time around he became exhausted and fell from the tractor seat.

Edson Herrick was living on the old home farm where he and Judge Herrick were reared. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Note: Parents of Edson Herrick were Julius Earl "Boy" Herrick and Jessie Louise Wilcutt. Edson was married to Alice R. Freeman.
