I found him buried in the Oakland Cemetery-Moulton-Appanoose County, Iowa.

In the 1980s the Appanoose County Genealogy Society walked all cemeteries in the county and copied all information from the gravestones. This information was placed in individual township cemetery books which they sold as a fundraiser for the society. The above information came from the Washington Township Book. This book gave the following information from his stone: HALE: Wm. A. d. May 11, 1888-66y 7m 22d (I will send you a picture of his stone at your email address listed on this site)
