Silas Deharity was struck and killed by lightening Friday evening between 6 and 7 o'clock. It was a terrible shock to his wife and the whole community. He lived one and a fourth miles southeast of Moravia, was 27 years old. He was married to Eliza Smith of Monroe county some 5 years ago. They have two children, both boys, the youngest one year old yesterday. Mr. Deharity joined the M. E. Church last winter, and was a faithful member until death. He had many friends, was honest and upright in all his dealings. His funeral was preached at the C. P. Church last Saturday morning by Rev. Wyckoff to a large congregation. His remains were then laid away in the cemetery. Your correspondent has been acquainted with Mr. Deharity from a boy. He leaves his family in good circumstances financially. We all deeply sympathize with the bereaved family. He was only about fifty yards from his house when killed, he had just eaten his supper and picked up his hoe to work in the garden, and had not been at work more than a minute.
