Lorraine M. Hoenig

CENTERVILLE — Lorraine M. Hoenig, 88, of Centerville, formerly of Burlington, died at 3:04 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

Born May 21, 1924, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Francis "Pete" and Mary Thibedeau Ertz. On Nov. 7, 1942, she married Bernard John "Bernie" Hoenig in Burlington. He died Dec. 2, 1997.

Lorraine was a homemaker and had worked at Younkers.

She graduated from St. Paul's Catholic High School in 1942.

She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting, beading, canning, baking, reading and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth (Sarah) Hoenig of Sioux Falls, S.D., Gerald Hoenig of Des Moines and Larry (Kathy) Hoenig of Burlington; two daughters, Colleen (Darrius) Baker of Phoenix, Ariz., and Tara (Paul) Koestner of Centerville; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Ertz of Pappillion, Neb.; three sisters, Marcella Ertz and Mildred Ertz both of Burlington, and Marjorie Schmidt of Plainfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Collette High; her parents; one granddaughter, Shayla Hoenig; and one brother, Eugene Ertz.

Visitation will be from 12-7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division St. in Burlington.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Hoenig will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 20 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Bruce A. DeRammelaere as the celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the St. John's Cafeteria following the burial.

A memorial has been established for the Hospice of Central Iowa.
