DECORAH- Dorothy M. Haugen, 89, died of a heart attack Monday, March 24, 2003 in Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse,
Wis. Services: 1:30pm Wednesday, Decorah Lutheran Church, by the Rev. James Glesne. Burial:
Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the
church. Arrangements with Fjelstul Funeral Home, Decorah.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosaly Rulifson of Raleigh, N.C.

Dorothy M. Haugen, 89, died Monday, March 24, 2003 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital of La Crosse, Wis.

Funeral services were Wednesday, March 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. James Glesne officiating. Casketbearers were Clifton Christianson, Merlin Hansmeier, Richard Hansmeier, Robert Hansmeier, Brian Rulifson and David Rulifson. Organist was Kathy Murray, and soloist Daryl Hansmeier performed "The Lord's Prayer" and "Amazing Grace." Congregational hymns were "Sweet Hour of Prayer," "My Faith Looks up to Thee" and "Beautiful Savior."

Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery, and Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.

Dorothy Miriam (Hansmeier) Haugen was born March 7, 1914 in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County to Herman and Louise (Klepper) Hansmeier.

She was educated in different schools, including the Ludlow school, and was baptized in June of 1914 and confirmed in April of 1928 by Rev. Stuebbe at the Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon.

Until her marriage she helped her siblings and their families.

She was united in marriage with Merle E. Haugen on March 23, 1937 in New Hampton. To this union one daughter was born: Rosalyn Kay..

Dorothy Haugen lived in Decorah for all of her married life and she assisted Merle Haugen in the operation of their business, Haugen Dodge.

She was an active member of Decorah Lutheran Church.

She was an officer in the Wayside Garden Club and made countless cakes for the Luther College Women's Club. She was involved n the membership drive for the Decorah Community Concert Association for over 40 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosalyn Kay (Dennis) Rulifson of Raleigh, N.C.; and two grandsons as well as other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Miriam (Hansmeier) Haugen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 19, 1963; three brothers: Elmer, John, and Rueben Hansmeier and three sisters: Meta Adams [sic - Adam], Esther Fiet, and Emma Stock.
