DIED - At his residence, in South Lansing, on the 20th inst., of Lung Fever, Merritt J. Burt, aged 41 years.

The deceased was ill but a few days, and leaves a wife and two children to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. The remains were followed to their last resting place by a large circle of friends, from the M.E. Church, on Sabbath afternoon.

Note: Served in Co. B, 12th Iowa Veteran Volunteer Infantry. A military headstone was provided for his grave by the U.S. government on Jan 21, 1883.
