RED WING – A memorial service for Michael J. Collins will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Wing, with the Rev. Thomas Kommers officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Red Wing.

Mr. Collins, 71, of Red Wing, Died Thursday (Oct. 18, 2007) at his home, of natural causes.

Michael Joseph Collins was born Nov. 11, 1935, in Owatonna. He was a 1953 graduate of Rochester Lourdes High School, attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, and received a degree in business from the University of Minnesota. He served in the Naval Reserve. Mr. Collins owned Northgate Liquor Store in Rochester.

He was married in 1957 and later divorced. In 1963, he moved to Red Wing, where he executive officer and owner of First State Bank until his death. A longtime member of the Elks Lodge, he served on many civic boards and was member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family, and was dedicated to his business and customers.

Survivors include a son, Michael H. (Julie) of Rochester; a daughter, Mary Lee “Mindy” Collins of Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Ann (Gus) Chafoulias of Rochester.

Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Assocation.

Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Capel of red Wing is handling arrangements.
