Lansing, Ia. - Funeral service were held from the Saam funeral parlors Wednesday afternoon for John O. Moen, 78, who committed suicide at his home near the foundry, last Monday, by drinking carbolic acid. Interment was made at oak Hill cemetery.

One sister, Mrs. Louis Lewison of Muscatine, was present, but the other two sisters and one surviving brother were too old and feeble to leave their homes.

A son, Ole John, was last heard of in Chicago eleven years ago. His present whereabouts, if he is alive, are unknown, but he had three children, who would be heirs of the deceased.

A neighbor, Mrs. Sever Johnson, first noticed Monday morning that there was no smoke coming from Mr. Moen's chimney, so she notified J.D. Johnson and Carl Colbornson, who, upon investigating, found all doors locked. They broke in and found the body in bed, with the poison bottle on a stand beside it. Coroner J.H. Heucker of Waukon, was notified, but decided that no inquest was necessary. Friends of the dead man believe that the malancholy which caused his act was brought about by financial loss and ill health, especially his failing eyesight.
