Elmer O. "Red" Thies, age 81, of Galena, Illinois passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth, Illinois. Services were held on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Galena. Burial was in the Saint Mary's Cemetery also in Galena.

Elmer was born May 24, 1923 in Waukon, Iowa to Lewis and Freelove (Eastman) Thies. He entered the Air Force in 1942 and served in the ETO area until his discharge in 1945. He married Helen Condon September 16, 1946 in Galena, Illinois. Elmer farmed in Iowa until he and his family moved to Galena in 1953...

I did look up some information about him and found the obituary for his wife Helen G. Thies who was born on July 4, 1923 and died on April 7, 2018. In her obituary was listed the names of their children: John (Patricia) Thies of Poulsbo, Washington, Thomas (Edith Wienen) of East Dubuque, Iowa, Michael (Raechel) of Carrollton, Texas and Carol Thies of East Dubuque, Iowa. There were 5 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They had two children who were deceased Susan Krohmer, and Rebecca "Becky" Beau.

Elmer was the youngest of 7 children. Most of his siblings lived in the Waukon, and Rossville, Iowa area in Allamakee County. Some can be found in the obituary section here for Allamakee County. His siblings were:
