SALZGEBER

The announcement on Tuesday morning that Pauline, the eldest child and only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Salzgeber, of this city, was dead, came with such a shock that our people could scarce at first believe it true, as few at most knew the little lady was in other than her usual robust health.

Friday night last she was stricken with a severe attack of inflammation of the bowels and despite the combined efforts of the local physicians she passed away at two o'clock on Tuesday morning, June 11, 1907, after three days of intense suffering.

At the time of her death Pauline was 10 years, eight months and six days old, all of her brief life being spent in Postville, where she was born. She was a happy, light-hearted little girl, whose untimely death has brought an almost unbearable grief to the father, mother and two small brothers, who have the sympathy of all in their great affliction.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at one o'clock from the home, Rev. Paulson, of Luana, officiating. The Roya Neighbors, of which order the mother is a member, attended in a body. A goodly number of Pauline's girl classmates and friends, all clad in white and bearing wreaths and bouquets of beautiful flowers, accompanied the cortege to the cemetery to deposit their floral offerings on the grave was an impressive and beautiful tribute.

We wish to thank all who in any way assisted us during the illness and burial of our darling daughter. THE FAMILY

~Postville Review, Friday, June 14, 1907

Note: one of the most hauntingly lovely gravestones in the Postville cemetery marks Pauline's grave. I was unable to find anything about the stone, or if it was created in her likeness.
