Mrs. W. Schrody Died Of Old Age
BORN IN CANADA 88 YEARS AGO; SHE CAME TO IOWA WHEN YOUNG GIRL

The death of Mrs. William A. Schrody occurred Saturday, March 25, 1933, at the hospital at Independence where she received care for some time past, aged 88 years 5 months and 29 days. Last September she suffered two paralytic strokes which were followed by complications causing her death.

Mrs. Schrody’s maiden name was Frances Brougham. She was born in Loudow, Canada, September 27, 1844. She moved, as a child, with her parents, to Wisconsin. One of her earliest recollections was the trip across Lake Michigan by boat. Her father died while she was still a child and the family moved to Dubuque, where she grew to womanhood.

She was married to William A. Schrody in 1872 and they settled on a farm four miles west of Waukon. Two children were born to this union, Kathryn Schrody, who has been ill since 1904, and Mrs. Lucy E. Tobey of Milwaukee. Mrs. Tobey was with her mother during the closing hours of her life.

Mr. and Mrs. Schrody sold their farm and purchased land in West Waukon. Here they built a home and conducted the Klondyke Nursery and Berry Farm until Mr. Schrody’s death in 1914, after which Mrs. Schrody went to Milwaukee to the home of her daughter. Here she reside until she was taken to Independence.

She was one of Waukon’s good Christian mothers and a kind and sympathetic neighbor and friend.

The remains reached Waukon Sunday and were taken to Pluemer & Bakke’s chapel where many friends paid their last tribute of respect. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Patrick’s church, conducted by Reverend John C. Stuart. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery beside her husband. Pallbearers were: P. J. Quillin, Thomas McGeough, Leonard Baxter, Thomas Baxter, Ed Ryan and O. A. Dixon.
