Pioneer Resident Called Saturday
JOHN R. RYAN WAS 76 YEARS OF AGE: FUNERAL HELD WEDNESDAY MORNING

John R. Ryan, a well known and highly respected citizen of Waukon, passed away Sunday afternoon at his home in this city, following an extended period of failing health from the infirmities of age.

Mr. Ryan was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ryan, and was born at Dubuque about 76 years ago. On December 1, 1884, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Rea and they settled down to home life on a farm in West Ridge. Three children were born to this union, two of whom survive, Mrs. Ed Drew of Freeport, Iowa, and William R. Ryan of Waukon. A son Joseph died in childhood. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas F. Ryan of Bridgewater, South Dakota, and Henry F. Ryan of Waukon. Fifteen years ago the family moved to this city which since been his home.

Many friends mourn the death of Mr. Ryan, who was honorable and upright in all of his dealing with fellowmen and had a cheery greeting for all with whom he came in contact. He endured uncomplainingly the privations of his early life and practiced frugality and industry. In his passing Waukon has lost one of its worthy and esteemed residents.

Funeral services were held this morning at St. Patrick’s church. A solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by Reverend John C. Stuart. Burial was in the family lot in the cemetery near the West ridge church.
