Jane (Coyle) Harkins Kringle

Jane Coyle was the daughter of Hugh Coyle (1801-1887) and Catherine Dunleavy (1815-1876) immigrants from Ireland. She was born on March 31, 1858 in Pennsylvania. She died on March 4, 1922 in Allamakee County, Iowa. Jane was the sister of Ellen Coyle Deeney (1852-1925). Hugh Coyle bequeathed to each of his daughters Ellen and Jane, one hundred dollars, upon his death.

Jane married John Harkins (1855-1882) on May 29, 1879 in Lansing Ridge, Allamakee County, Iowa. He was the son of Cornelius Harkins (1816-1904) and Ann Nancy Helferty (1826-1897) also immigrants from Ireland.

Jane and John had one child, John Cornelius Harkins. He was born on August 24, 1881 in Waukon, Allamakee County, Iowa. Records of his death have not been located. The 1940 U. S. Federal Census; prior to living in Hot Springs, Madison, Montana, John lived in Okanogan County, Washington. He listed his occupation as laborer. John Cornelius Harkins registered for the WWII draft, in 1942, at sixty-one years old. At that time, he was living in Harrison, Montana. He worked for William Maichel, in Harrison. William Maichel was a partner in his family’s farm. John listed Arthur Kringle of Decorah, Iowa as his brother.

Jane remarried after John Harkins death to Joseph M. Kringle. Joseph Kringle (1867-1898) and Jane had one son, Arthur Joseph Vincent Kringle. He was born on August 28, 1895 in Waukon, Iowa. He died on October 24, 1979 in Contra Costa, California. Arthur was married to Francis Jane Horn (1904-1987). They had one son, Sanford Kringle. Arthur and his family lived in Decorah, Iowa, where he was employed by the Highway Department. In 1943, the family moved to California. Arthur, accordingto the Mason City Globe newspaper, would be employed by the Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond, California.

Jane lived in Makee, Allamakee County. The 1920 Federal Census; she lived on Allamakee Street and owned her home. She was sixty-one years old. She died at the age of sixty-three years old of heart disease discovered after a fall. Jane is buried with Joseph at Lycurgus Cemetery, in Allamakee County, Iowa.
