James Wesley Carr , son of Irdale and Elizabeth Challender Carr was born September 25, 1856 in Leesburg, Ohio. At the age of 13 years he came to this community with his parents in the fall of 1889.
On September 27, 1875 in Adams County, Iowa he was unite in marriage to Sarah Jane Thomas and to this union five children were born, Samuel T. Carr, Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, Cordelia Tindall, Effie Wild, and Edna Boham of Carbon vicinity, and one son, Granville, preceding him in death.
Mr. Carr has been totally blind for the past fifteen years, being tenderly cared for by his devoted wife and three daughters in their homes. He was born a man of great faith and devotion, as well as being a kind and loving father.
His health has failed rapidly during the past year, gradually growing worse until the end came peacefully at 6:30, Sunday evening, December 16, at the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 20 days.
He is survived by his wife and four children, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister, they being Elmer of Nebraska, Henry, Ankron, and Ann Knerr of Corning. Four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Carbon M. E. Church, December 18, 1924 conducted by Rev. William Overhulser. Interment was made in the Quincy Cemetery.
