MRS. FELIX GERARD

Mrs. Elva Humbert Gerard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sebastian Humbert, born October 24, 1872 on a farm 1 mile south of Corning, Iowa, passed away suddenly February 2, 1949 at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 8 days. She attended High School in Corning and with the exception of a few years spent her entire life in this community.

She was united in marriage on December 24, 1891 to Felix Gerard. To this union were born two children: Harold of Sacramento, California, and Vera who passed away in 1929. Her husband preceeded her in death, January 22, 1940.

In 1920 she and her husband moved to Iowa City to give their children the advantages of a University Education. They returned in 1924 to make their home again on a farm south of Corning.

In early youth she united with the Presbyterian Church in Corning and was at the time of her death a member of the Federated Church of Corning.

Surviving members of her family are two brothers: Bert Staughan [Straughan] of Drumright, Okla. and Curt Straughan of Arlington, California; her son Harold and her grandson Howard, a student in the University of Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon from The Boyd Roland Co. Funeral home. Rev. Lawrence Murphy of the Federated Church had charge of the services. Mrs. Russell Roland and John Riegel furnished the music, accompanied by Mrs. Lyle Posten.

Pall bearers were Harry Murdock, Clifford Clark, Glade Havens, Chester Jackson, Loren Fuller and Chester Reinhardt. Burial was in Prairie Rose cemetery.
