February 19 1931Joseph D. White was born in Washington County, Ohio, January 2, 1852, the son of Alfred and Eliza Devoll White, and died February 13, 1931, aged 79 years, 1 month and 11 days.
When seven years of age he came with his parents to Adams County, Iowa, where he has since resided, except for a short residence in Kansas.
He was married to Miss Hester Cunningham at Brooks, Iowa, March 31, 1874. Four sons came to bless this union, all of whom are living. They are Wilber and O.L. of Oakland, California; Lloyd of San Francisco, California and Oscar, who resides on the home farm near Corning, Iowa. Two grandchildren, sons of Wilber White, survive him; also one brother, Will, of Colorado and four half-brothers, Charles of Plainview, Texas, Fred of Chicago, Illinois, and Artie and Floyd of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and one half-sister, Chrome Hupp of Los Angeles, California and his step-mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bryson of Brooks, Iowa.
Nearly two years ago Mr. White was stricken with paralysis at his home in Corning. He and his wife, an invalid, were taken to the home of their son, Oscar and wife, where they have since been kindly and tenderly cared for. Mr. White united with the Christian Church at Brooks, Iowa, many years ago and his life has proven his faith in the teaching of the Master. Joe White has answered the last call, as we all must. He will be missed, but after all, the thing that counts for most is that those who are left will remember him as a kind, loving, even- tempered father, husband, friend and neighbor, a peace-loving man. Of love, kindness and sympathy he had much and he gave much, and he will be remembered by what he has done.
Funeral services were held from the Fairview Church, Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. W.C. McClelland of Corning, Iowa. Interment was made at Prairie Rose Cemetery.
