--------
Fire Destroys Large
Barn Near Adair

--------

Fire, which started by spontaneous
combustion, destroyed the large barn
on the Charles Wedemeyer farm,
southeast of here Monday night. Mr.
and Mrs. Wedemeyer were milking
cows in the barn when the blaze was
discovered by their daughter, Mil-
dred, who was playing in the opposite
side of the building. Mr. Wedemeyer
sought to extinguish the blaze but the
fire soon got out of control.

An appeal for help brought many
neighbors and the Adair fire truck.
The livestock was led from the barn
and much of the farm machinery in
the building was saved. The roof of
the corn crib adjoining the barn was
burned but neighbors succeeded in
saving its contents.

The loss is partially covered by in-
surance.
