Robert Carnes, Veteran, reenlists and volunteers at Woodville, Ala, January 30, 1864. By Capt Alomo Abernathy. He served in the 9th Iowa Infantry. Robert had originally enlisted on August 20, 1861 at Decorah, IA.

Robert Carnes, gave his life for his country on May 15, 1864 at the Fighting of Resaca, GA. This battle is considered to be possibly one of the bloodier battles of the Atlanta Campaign, with approximately 6,100 casualties: 3,500 Union and 2,600 Confederate.
